Industrial Rock Pioneers MINISTRY Live Debut CD SPHINCTOUR

While I would've liked to see more songs from "The Land of Rape and Honey" and "The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste", this live album from Ministry is, nonetheless, not too shabby. However, with 5 songs from "Psalm 69", their "breakthrough" album, 5 from 1995's noisy "Filth Pig" and one lonely track from "The Mind is..." (the immortal "Thieves") this is hardly representative of Ministry's body of work. What it is, is a sonic assault containing some of their heaviest material. I was pleased with the overall production of the album, which is to say, the crunching sound of guitars mixed well with the looping effects and sound bites which Ministry loves to incorporate. And, although I'd love to hear a new twist on "Stigmata" (which is supposedly to be included on the "Sphinctour" DVD, along with "So What"), "Burning Inside", "Never Believe" or "You Know What You Are", I'll take what I can get.

Bottom Line: In the same way that "In Case You Didn't Feel Like Showing Up" captured the essence of the band in 1990, this seems to be a good representation of where Ministry is at today, sound wise. Pick it up, I don't think you'll be disappointed.
